This year’s Magnolia Summerfest and Art Show is expected to be bigger and better than ever, with parades, events, more booths and activities for the entire family.
Scheduled for Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30, the annual Summerfest is one of the summer’s big events for the community. Marti Stave, chairwoman of the 2011 Magnolia Summerfest said the event needs more art pieces to show. Anyone interested in displaying their own works of art are asked to visit the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce website at www.magnoliachamber.org, where they can sign up to submit their pieces for the show.
Stave said that this year, visitors can look forward to as many as 70 booths around the Magnolia ball field that will contain a wide variety of activities, including products from local companies and merchants; arts and crafts; and nonprofits. There will also be a Main Stage with live music, pony rides and a kid’s stage with clowns and a magic show.
The highlights for Friday, July 29, include pony rides and a giant slide that will be placed on 33rd Avenue West. In the evening, Summerfest hosts the annual Youth Talent Show, in which kids from 6 years old to 14 perform. That event is followed by a free outdoor showing of “E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial,” on the wall of the Magnolia Community Center. The festival will be underway from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
On Saturday, July 30, the day begins with the Magnolia Seafair Parade & Kid’s Parade at 10:30 a.m. This year’s parade will include the Seafair Pirates and the Wells Fargo Stagecoach. Following the parades, the festival will include baby races, more live music from the Main Stage, a pie-eating contest. Another Saturday highlight will be the noon performance by the Sunshine From Polynesia dance troupe, complete with fire dance.
Stave said there will be a beer garden and plenty of food booths on West Smith Street this year, including the arrival of Ballard-based Veraci Pizza, which cooks their gourmet pizza pies in their own portable brick oven.
