Magnolia’s Bookstore is hosting an outdoor book signing event for local author Peter Moe from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday in front of the bookstore on West McGraw during the Magnolia Farmers Market.

Moe, a Magnolia resident and assistant professor of English at Seattle Pacific University, will be signing copies of his first book, “Touching This Leviathan,” Oregon State University Press, which can be purchased at Magnolia Bookstore and other locations during the event.

The book, which is comprised of essays and narratives, asks “how we might come to know the unknowable,” specifically whales, through essays and narratives. Moe said this book is a passion project of his, stemming from a fascination and awe of whales developed in childhood. While a central theme throughout, the book considers the large sea mammals through literary, theological and personal perspectives. In 2020, Moe led a team of more than 100 volunteers who assembled a whale skeleton now hanging in a SPU building. For more information on Moe and his book, go to peterwaynemoe.com.
