The Queen Anne Block Captains, in conjunction with the Lake City Emergency Communication Hub, is sponsoring a free Stop The Bleed class from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Queen Anne Community Center, 1901 First Ave. W.

“Civilians need basic training in Bleeding Control principles so they are able to provide immediate, frontline aid until first responders are able to take over care of an injured person,” according to a Queen Anne Block Captains news release. “Rapid control of bleeding at the scene of the event can be life-saving.”

The one-hour Stop the Bleed presentation includes a video on surviving an active-shooter situation and will be followed by hands-on practice packing wounds and applying tourniquets.

Due to the graphic nature of some of the presentation, attendees are encouraged not to bring young children.
