Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan will be at the Queen Anne Community Center on Saturday for a community discussion with area neighborhoods about how to provide essential services and make the city more affordable and inclusive.

There has been a lot written about the Love Israel Family commune, which had its start on Queen Anne Hill in 1968. Rachel Israel was a child when her mother brought her into the hippie community, and she says those writings barely scratch the surface.

It’s an important moment in his work as a choreographer, and Kyle Davis has gone big.
This Friday, Davis, a soloist with Pacific Northwest Ballet, will premiere his first commissioned work for the entire company.

When a production is heart-wrenching yet so exquisite, it causes a swelling of emotions, first in your heart, and then your soul. And few plays leave an audience submerged for 2 1/2 hours. Such is “A Thousand Splendid Suns,” now playing at Seattle Repertory Theatre through Nov. 10. It is a joint production with the American Conservatory Theater.

Ray Luiggi and Carmen Hagios are expecting hundreds of their son’s friends, family, classmates, doctors and nurses to attend Nico Luiggi’s celebration of life on Saturday.
“We want to make this for the community, because there’s been a lot of grieving in the community, and not just in our house,” Ray Luiggi said.

Magnolia resident Linda Wilson’s love for Halloween has earned her a reputation, and one she’s quite proud of.
“Around here I’m kind of known as ‘the Halloween Lady,’” she said.

Surviving 100 years is a big deal for any organization. Not many schools, businesses or community groups can say they’ve been around for an entire century. For the Third Church of Christ, Scientist in Seattle’s University District, its centennial is a cause for celebration. But the church also sees the occasion as an opportunity for self-examination.

Cara Lauer has strong ties to Queen Anne, and those connections are expected to grow even more as the new executive director of the neighborhood Helpline.
