Holiday burglary

Police responded to a burglary at a house in the 300 block of West Kinnear Place at 8:57 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22.

The complainant was housesitting for the homeowners while they were away for the holiday. He said he went to sleep in a bedroom on the top floor at about 12:30 a.m., and he forgot to set the house alarm system.

He found several drawers open, doors standing open that had been closed, and cabinets opened and rifled through, after waking up around 7:45 a.m. Dirt was tracked through the house, and a bathroom windowsill had clumps of dirt all over it. It looked like the burglar climbed in through this window. Outside the house, the window’s frame had dings on it, likely from being pried. There were dirty smudged fingerprints on the window’s glass. A shovel was left on top of a nearby hot tub, which police theorized was used to pry the window.

The complainant said the only items he was sure were stolen were an Xbox and a stereo system.
