For those who missed the Urban Survival Skills Fair last November, the Queen Anne Block Captains Network will be sponsoring a class on emergency preparedness basics. This event is for people who want to be able to talk to an instructor in a classroom setting.

The Preparedness Basics Class will run from 10:30 a.n. to noon, March 21, at the Queen Anne Community Center, 1901 1st Avenue West. Register at:

The class is for people who may be feeling overwhelmed by the idea of preparing for an earthquake. It will discuss practical, low-cost and high-value actions.

“It’s not about buying stuff (that’s the easy part), it’s about thinking through what might work for your situation,” wrote volunteer Paula Mueller is a press release.

Topics that will be covered include staying safe while the earth is shaking, what to expect in an earthquake's aftermath, communicating with those important people in our lives, tech tools, the psychological impact of an earthquake or disaster, Seattle's disaster plans and more.

This class will be taught by Preparedness Instructor and HubCap, Ann Forrest.
