Seattle Public Schools, Nov. 30, conducted the swearing in oath of office ceremony for three members of the SPS Board of Directors.

The board members, who begin their four-year terms, were chosen by voters in the Nov. 2 general election in King County.

Two of the elected directors are new to the school board, Michelle Sarju and Vivian Song Maritz.

Director Brandon K. Hersey, also elected by voters, will continue to serve on the board after being appointed to the position in 2019.

Board directors each represent a different geographic region of Seattle.

Sarju represents District V, the north central part of Seattle. Song Maritz will represent District IV, which includes Queen Anne, Magnolia and a part of Ballard. Hersey will continue representing District VII, the southeast part of Seattle

The three directors are part of the seven-member board, which includes four directors whose terms are at the midway point of service: President Chandra Hampson, District III; Director Liza Rankin, District I; Director Lisa Rivera Smith, District II; Director Leslie S. Harris, District VI.

Sarju replaces outgoing board member Zachary DeWolf, and Song Maritz replaces Dury on the board.
