Supporting families separated at the U.S.-Mexico border will be focus of a free “take action” event Sunday afternoon at the Queen Anne Community Center (1901 1st Ave. W.).

Immigration attorney emeritus Robert Free of the ACLU, Juan Bocanegra of Seattle-based social justice organization El Comité, and state Rep. Lillian Ortiz-Self are all scheduled to speak at the event — set for 2 to 4 p.m. — about both the latest regarding the family separations, and what is now being done to help families from Washington state.

Attendees will also learn how to advocate for immigrants’ rights, and be able to take direct action, through both letter writing and monetary donations for legal aid and support. 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the ACLU, El Comité, and the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

The family-friendly event will also include a bouncy house and crafts for kids.
