Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles (D-36th District) was named Legislator of the Week by the Washington Housing Alliance Action Fund for the week that ended March 1.

Throughout legislative session, the alliance is naming a Legislator of the Week whenever a lawmaker takes action that helps promote affordable housing and prevent homelessness. The alliance recognized Kohl-Welles and Sen. David Frockt, D-46th District) for their collaboration on Senate Bill 5568, the Fair Tenant Screening Act.

The Washington Housing Alliance Action Fund is the political arm of the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance.

Kohl-Welles’ bills to improve college assessment of students’ remedial needs (Senate Bill 5712) and to help teachers identify and assist students who are victims of child sexual abuse and exploitation (SB 5563) were unanimously passed in the state Senate. SB 5674, which allows wine and beer samples at farmers markets, was also recently passed.
