KCTS 9 has been awarded a two-year, $200,000 membership challenge grant from Newman’s Own Foundation, the independent foundation created by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman.

KCTS 9 will use this grant as a dollar-for-dollar match to encourage current members (up to $999 per year) to make major gifts ($1,000 and above), as well as to encourage new and returning major donors to the station, by offering the opportunity to double their giving.

This additional support from higher-level donors is part of the station’s goal to diversify revenue sources, stabilizing funding and targeting more resources to produce, acquire and broadcast local and national programs.

Newman established the Foundation in 2005 to continue his pledge to donate to charity all net profits and royalties from the sale of products from Newman’s Own Inc. Since the food company’s founding in 1982, Newman and Newman’s Own Foundation have donated more than $370 million to thousands of charities worldwide.
