PEMCO Insurance and Staples are teaming up for a special donation event on Thursday at the office supply chain’s Interbay store (1541 15th Ave. W.) as the culmination of the first annual “Supply Surge” school supply drive to support Seattle-area students in need.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the store will offer a 10 percent discount on select supplies, while those who donate will be eligible to win special prizes, including gift certificates and an Epson All-in-One printer.

The donations will be distributed to six Seattle public schools — three middle and three high schools — with high populations of low-income families and students experiencing homelessness.

The Staples store is one of around 30 businesses and residents in South Lake Union taking part in the supply drive. Donations can also be made online at, or shipped to the PEMCO headquarters (ATTN: Supply Surge, 1300 Dexter Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109). Among the most-needed supplies are backpacks, calculators, composition books, pens, pencils, and highlighters.
