'Breathless': Jean Seberg as Patricia, Jean-Paul Belmondo as Michel
For the past twelve years I've contributed reviews of tape, DVD, and now Blu-ray releases for posting on Amazon.com. Yes, Amazon wants to sell you things, and yes, they ask that writers avoid going ballistic about a movie's awfulness in the very first line of the review, which is as far as many visitors to their website will read. Not an unreasonable request, and that's about the only restriction they've imposed. I've been proud of (most of) these reviews, and often felt that they may have helped lead more people to view a given movie than a lot of feature reviews and articles I've written.
I didn't write a review of Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless (À bout de soufflé), a seminal work that started the French New Wave rolling; Amazon already had one of those. But I got to do 700some words on the disc extras. If you're curious, go here. By the way, the digital restoration of Breathless itself is, aptly enough, breathtaking. -RTJ
